In 2006, British artist Jamie McCartney embarked on a project to create a monumental wall sculpture to end the confusion, at a scale that could not be ignored.
For 400 womxn their private parts have gone public.
Jamie was concerned that a lack of information was leading to increasing genital anxiety. This sculpture is his campaign to simply demonstrate vulva diversity. Knowledge is power. In 2011 it was finished and the rest, as they say, is art history…
Jamie’s exhibition is controversial - there is no doubt about that. As a piece of art, it fulfils all the most basic criteria - a multi-layered experience it informs, it questions and it provokes a reaction, both emotional and academic. Like Jeff Koons and Damien Hirst… the world will be talking about Jamie McCartney for a long time to come.
